Neeson says unemployment rise shows need for green economy strategy

Following news that the number of people claiming unemployment benefit rose again in May, Alliance Enterprise Spokesperson Seán Neeson MLA has said that the Executive must do all it can to create more jobs and he said that the creation of a Green New Deal would do so while protecting the environment.

Seán Neeson MLA said: “This rise shows that we need a clear and decisive strategy to create new jobs and I believe that a Green New Deal would do so whilst improving sustainability in the region.

“This is an extremely tough time for people and I want government to be ambitious in trying to alleviate the economic problems we face. The private sector must be expanded in order to tackle unemployment and strengthen our economy.”
