Neeson says we need Green New Deal to create jobs

Following the publication of an Ulster Bank report that indicates that the construction sector is still in a very difficult situation, Alliance Enterprise Spokesperson Seán Neeson MLA has said a Green New Deal is essential to deliver more construction jobs and help protect the environment. A home insulation scheme would be a key part of a Green New Deal and would create jobs in the construction industry. The Ulster Bank’s latest Purchasing Managers Index shows the private sector activity has fallen at the fastest rate in three months.

Seán Neeson MLA said: “This report would suggest that we need a clear and radical strategy to create jobs particularly for the construction sector.

“We need to see a Green New Deal created for Northern Ireland because we need a coherent strategy that not only creates jobs but also protects our environment.

“There is massive potential in sustainability and a Green New Deal would help role out a home insulation scheme which would create a large number of construction jobs. Renewable energy creation is an area in which we can capitalise on global demand and create jobs. We have excellent potential here in terms of wind and tidal power and we can make Northern Ireland a leading area in terms of sustainability.”
