Cllr Sara Duncan said: “I want to urge everyone who is concerned about the proposals to attend the public consultation meeting at Cregagh Library to make sure that their voices are heard.
“Four years ago Newtownbreda library was under threat of closure, so I placed petitions in all the local shops, then took the signatures to Stormont. Public support ensured Newtownbreda did not close.
“Libraries are essential to children who have no other access to books, or story telling, to pensioners, visually impaired for large print and tapes, and especially the unemployed who can access computers and newspapers. With the downturn in our economy, and cuts to school budgets, libraries are needed more than ever.
“I want to urge all readers to oppose these proposals.”
