Cllr Barney Fitzpatrick said: “I am appalled at this attack on the police. Given the events of recent months in the town this attack is particularly worrying. Those involved achieved absolutely nothing by attacking those who are trying to protect the local community.
“All community workers and political representatives need to continue their efforts to ease the tensions that have developed in the area in recent times.
“I would urge anybody with any information about this attack to contact the police.”
