Hendron says interface violence is bringing shame on city

After a second night of trouble at an East Belfast interface, Pottinger Alliance Councillor Maíre Hendron has said people are sick of a few individuals destroying the good name of the local community.

Councillor Maíre Hendron said: “These disturbances have to stop now. The local community is sick and tired of the actions of a few individuals, which are bringing scorn and shame on the area. People just want to get on with their lives free from violence and fear.

“Those who organised the previous night’s rally to mark the closure of Mountpottinger police station must take a long hard look at themselves. People need to act responsibly and act for the good of the community.

“Northern Ireland is moving forward and despicable scenes like this do nothing but harm the image of Belfast and the local area.”
