Fitzpatrick condemns Coleraine sectarian attack

Coleraine Alliance Councillor Barney Fitzpatrick has expressed disgust at an attack on a teenager in the Long Commons area of the town which police are treating as sectarian. The attack on the 17-year-old boy took place at 1200 BST yesterday.

Cllr Barney Fitzpatrick said: “This was a disgusting attack and is particularly worrying given recent events in the town.

“All public representatives in the town must unite and again send out a clear message that sectarianism and violence will not be tolerated. The town has had a difficult few weeks and I believe that the small minority of thugs involved in recent events are totally unrepresentative of this area.

“I hope that the victim of the attack makes a quick recovery and I would call on anyone with information on this incident to contact police immediately.”
