Anna Lo MLA said: “I offer my congratulations to the police for their success in rescuing these women.
“I am pleased that the police attitude is no longer to see these women as illegal immigrants but is now to see them as victims. It is also very good that after their rescue, these women now have protection and counselling in a refuge and have 45 days to consider what they want to do next.
“This is very important as it will encourage women to come forward and give evidence against the human traffickers. If the women feel that they will be treated as victims then it will be easier for these gangs to be broken up.”
