Lunn gives Winter Fuel Trust cheque to charity

Alliance Lagan Valley MLA Trevor Lunn has handed over the first cheque from his Winter Fuel Trust to St Vincent de Paul. He called on anyone who wants to use their winter fuel payment to help older people in most need to donate it to his Winter Fuel Trust. This year’s fund will be open until the end of February and will re-open next winter. Cheques should be made payable to Winter Fuel Trust and sent to 17 Graham Gardens, Lisburn BT28 1XE.

Trevor Lunn MLA said: “I would ask any older person who believes they can do without their winter fuel payment to donate it to the Winter Fuel Trust, so that it can go to those in most need.

“There are a number of older people who still have a high income and I appeal to them to donate this payment to help older people who are less fortunate than themselves.

“The severity of this winter underlines the need for more assistance for the most vulnerable people in our society. The Winter Fuel Trust aims to provide extra help in the battle against fuel poverty amongst older people.

“I am pleased to be working in conjunction with St Vincent de Paul, and I know I can rely on them to direct the donations to those who need them most.

“The Trust will gladly accept donations from anyone and is open until the end of February. It will re-commence again next winter and I believe it can make a difference for the older people hardest hit during the coldest months of the year.”
