Jones condemns ‘cowardly’ pensioner burglary

East Belfast Alliance Councillor Mervyn Jones has hit out at those who burgled the house of two women, one in her 80s and the other in her 90s. The incident took place in Parkgate Avenue, Ballyhackamore at around 9pm last night and both women were left shaken but unhurt.

Cllr Mervyn Jones stated: “This was a cowardly act carried out by thoughtless thugs.

“To target older people and rob their house is simply despicable. These thugs would have grandparents themselves, and I find it beyond belief that they could put two older people through such an ordeal.

“Local residents are understandably shocked at this incident. I would appeal to anyone who has information which may assist the police in their investigation to contact them immediately.”
