Castlereagh Councillor Michael Long said, “I was delighted to have the opportunity to speak to local children about the importance of buying Fairtrade products and the campaign to make Dundonald the first Fairtrade Village in Northern Ireland. I would like to thank the school principal, Mr McCartney, for giving me the opportunity to raise this matter and I was very impressed with the knowledge that pupils had of the subject and their enthusiasm for helping those less fortunate than themselves.
“This is the latest phase of our campaign to highlight Fairtrade in Dundonald and other members of the group have visited other schools in the area in recent months. At the end of the assembly, I presented Mr McCartney with some Fairtrade footballs to help remind the children about the issue, and we have also donated other footballs which we received from the Co-op to local youth teams.”
