Coleraine road death shows urgent need for new Executive to make roads safer

Alliance Coleraine Representative and Party Chair Yvonne Boyle has expressed shock and sadness at the news that a man has died in a road accident in Coleraine. She stated that this incident underlines the urgent need for the new Executive to address the issue of road safety urgently. The accident in Coleraine happened on the Sandelford Bridge where a road maintenance worker was stuck by a lorry that had previously collided with a stationary vehicle.

Coleraine Alliance Representative Yvonne Boyle said: “My condolences go out to the family of the man killed in this tragic accident.

“Action must be taken urgently to stop the carnage on our roads. To date, this year there have been 38 fatalities on our roads in Northern Ireland.

“These tragedies must stop and the new Executive must make tackling road deaths a priority when devolution is restored next week.

“To stop road deaths we must tackle the dangers of speeding, careless driving, the use of mobile phones and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”
