ALLIANCE Leader David Ford has criticised the Government’s decision not to grant permission for a new integrated primary school in Ballycastle.
Mr Ford stated: “This decision to deny Ballycastle an integrated school directly contradicts the Government’s duties under the Agreement. It also calls into question its commitment to building a united community in Northern Ireland.
“I have raised this issue with both the Secretary of State and Minister Jane Kennedy, and I am now seeking an urgent meeting with the Prime Minister to discuss this failure on the part of Government to live up to its responsibilities.
“Parents in Ballycastle have the same right to choose integrated education as those in any other part of Northern Ireland.
“The Government would not refuse permission for a Catholic school on the basis that there were spare places in a controlled school. A new integrated school should be treated on the same basis.”
